The Innovation ≠ Environment Paradox
It has always been a notion that injecting the novelty of innovations into our existing lifestyle begets a more prosperous outlook. Boasting a perception of ease and simplicity that would otherwise take arduous labor and effort, industrial discoveries expand our scope and possibilities of a fulfilled life. A young mind would dream of a future frenzy of flying cars and supercomputers that can sustain our ecosystem or scientific marvels that would resurrect our ancient pasts and adapt them into the present; perhaps a combination of both. But our single-minded dependence on such means could also signal a glimpse into a dystopian world usually seen in movies and literature.
The thing is, it could go either way. Innovation finds new meaning in promoting a better life for all through adaptation and resourcefulness. But the planet itself also contributes largely to the fostering of these ingenuities. We wouldn’t be where we are if not for planet Earth, the venue where these discoveries are made; our launching pad, so to speak. So, if we believe that we can progress with more breakthroughs while our launching pad is in disarray, we’re sorely mistaken.
