Volunteers — The Unsung Heroes of Environmental Endeavors

Volunteers undoubtedly possess an indispensable value when it comes to any activity or initiative. However, this value is often neglected in favor of those with some influence and star power who advertise themselves for the deed before taking it on. Of course, that’s not without saying that what they do is ignored completely; their activities do go noticed, drawing attention and gaining traction on a wider scale and eventually becoming the next major news. It’s just that sometimes… it doesn’t happen. This swing of a metaphorical spotlight casts a vague view of how volunteers are seen in the eyes of a bystander.

From a volunteer’s angle, however, the whole point of this isn’t the spotlight, which for them is more of a necessity to attract like-minded people to their cause and make the initiative grow and prosper. It’s not a contractual obligation for payment either, though they certainly deserve it for their hard work. The point of this is to get a point across; expressing the fact that actions indeed speak louder than words, and that if they can turn their ideology into action, so can others who are reluctant to do so.
